Using natural, rare Bizen soil that has been formed over tens of thousands of years ago through the natural stratification of four types of Bizen clay, this breath taking Chawan was all hand builded.
This art piece was fired in a climbing kiln, and when the temperature inside the kiln reached around 1200℃, it was removed from the kiln using a long iron clamp and placed in rice husks to rapidly cool, resulting in the impressive silver-gray appearance.
An unusual choice for Bizen ware, a transparent glaze was applied and expected to turn transparent from rapid cooling. However, the glaze has taken on a beautiful white hue, granting it an exceptional aesthetic appeal.
The subtle variations in color that overlap one another convey the robustness of the Bizen soil, while the depth of its significance never fails to fascinate and captivate eyes.
